Can You Be Sure About Your Place in Heaven?

Surely you have heard many opinions about how to get to heaven. Some of the more common ones are:

  • You must be a good person.
  • Your "good deeds" must outweigh your "bad deeds."
  • You must live a certain lifestyle.
  • You must follow a certain path.
  • You must find your own way, the way that is right for you.

All of these solutions have certain attributes in common:

  • They are all very noble.
  • They all require a lot of effort.
  • They all require a lot of patience.
  • They all take a lifetime.
  • They all suggest that you must "find" heaven.
  • They all center on you.

And most notably, they are all wrong.

It's Not What You Do

Despite all the opinions, the Bible tells us that no matter what you do, you will never make yourself "good enough" for heaven.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. - Romans 3:23*

It's definitely not what you do.

It's Who You Know

The Bible also tells God loved you so much he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to get you to heaven.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16*

Jesus Christ died, being punished for all the sins you will ever commit.

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. - 1 Peter 3:18*

By raising Jesus back to life, God confirmed that Jesus is real and exactly who He says he is.

But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. - 1 Corinthians 15:20-22*

Jesus Christ did not show us the way to heaven... He is the way to heaven.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. - John 14:6*

That is an important point, so to review: Imitating Christ will not get you to heaven... Trusting Him to take you there will.

It's definitely who you know.

So How Can You Know Jesus?

The Bible outlines 3 simple steps to know Jesus Christ:

  1. Realize and admit that in your life, you have failed to live up to God's standards.
  2. Be so sorry that you have failed God that you are willing to change.
  3. Trust Jesus Christ to forgive you, lead you and save you.

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10a*

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. - Romans 10:9-10*

It's that simple. And heaven waits. But before you decide, there is something else you should know.

Full Disclosure

If you enjoy your life just the way it is, a relationship with Jesus Christ may not be for you. While it is the only way to heaven, it is also completely life-changing.

Why? Is there a catch? Does becoming a Christian come with a surprise list of rules? No, it's not the rules that change. You change.

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20*

When you trust Jesus Christ with your life, He takes control of it. The Bible tells us He sends a helper, the Holy Spirit, to live inside of every new Christian, and in effect, you are reborn. Over time, your life will change, not because the rules have changed, but because you change inside. Do you trust Jesus to know what is best for you?

Well, are you ready? Becoming a Christian is the most life-changing commitment you will ever make, so it should never be made lightly. The Pastor is available to answer questions, provide guidance, and address any fears you may have. Email the Pastor Now

The decision to become a Christian is, however, the best and most important commitment you will ever make. If you are sure, why not go ahead and become a Christian right now. Many people begin their life as a Christian with a prayer, thanking God for saving them. If you are not sure just how to pray, you can use the following prayer, but do so from your own heart:

God,
It broke my heart to realize that I had not lived up to your standards. I now see why I needed a Savior. I believe that through Jesus Christ's death and resurrection I am forgiven and saved. I trust in Jesus alone, and willingly invite Him to make changes in me. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me!
Amen

Next Steps

If you have decided to trust Jesus with your life, congratulations and welcome to God's Kingdom! Without a doubt, you are indeed going to heaven. That's not our opinion, it's exactly what the Bible makes known.

Your news is too good not to share it with others. To demonstrate to others the change Christ has begun in you, the Bible teaches you are to be baptized with water.

CRBC wants to celebrate with you. Let the Pastor know about your citizenship in the kingdom of God. Perhaps we can help you with your baptism. Email the Pastor Now
